According to Calciomercato, Newcastle have approached Roma to sign Cengiz Ünder, with Leicester also interested in the Turkey international.
The 23-year-old has won 21 caps for his country, scoring six goals. Additionally, the forward also has 17 goals and 12 assists in 88 outings for Roma.
Ünder’s former national team coach Mircea Lucescu even likened the attacker to Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.
He said: ‘Cengiz keeps developing every day. His future looks really bright. His playing style and quality remind me of Mohamed Salah’.
Transfermarkt lists the Turk as a natural right-winger, although he is capable of playing anywhere across the frontline.
Another player who is capable of doing just that according to the same site, and could be improved by Ünder’s potential arrival, is Allan Saint-Maximin.
Our flamboyant Frenchman is immensely popular at St James’ Park.
However, if you were to criticise him for anything, it would be his end product.
For a player who can beat almost anyone and get into fantastic positions, he should be doing slightly better.
In that respect, the arrival of a quality player such as Ünder could potentially spark Saint-Maximin into another gear, given the added competition in Steve Bruce’s attack.
Competition isn’t really something the tricky winger has had to face since moving from OGC Nice.
Should the exciting Turk arrive on Tyneside, we may see our entertaining No.10 get even better.
