Joelinton can’t do it all on his own. As the transfer window starts to creak shut, Newcastle must bring in another striker before Thursday’s deadline.
After a ponderous summer, Newcastle’s transfer activity has accelerated in recent days. Allan Saint-Maximin is finally on board, and so is Jetro Willems.
But by no means should we be finished in the transfer market. We still need another striker.
As it stands, all we have is Joelinton and Dwight Gayle. And there’s no guarantee that the latter will still be with the club, as Championship clubs will likely be keen to snap him up.
We need back up, and decent back up at that. We can’t have another Joselu situation. The lad was merely a body and didn’t inspire any confidence when he came off the bench.
Steve Bruce has played down talk of signing another striker, but we’d be taking a big risk if we didn’t.
Charlie Austin was linked a few weeks ago, and he’d be a strong option. He’s a poacher and someone you would feel could grab a goal when the pressure is on.
Another name mentioned is Andy Carroll, who’s actually a free agent after being released by West Ham. When fit, he’s a handful. The issue is he’s never fit.
Regardless of who it is, Newcastle must bring in another striker before the window closes. There was talk of another right-back coming in, but a striker should be the priority.
