It is yet another reason why Newcastle should ensure they get his future sorted out as soon as possible, and offer him a contract worthy of a player who could become the future of the club.
There was talk recently of scouts from across Europe watching him during this international break, as they become aware of his contract situation.
International sides will be free to sign Longstaff to a pre-contract agreement from January, and while he is still likely to commit his future to the Magpies, fans will be concerned as long as no deal has been signed.
Seeing him getting international recognition will do nothing to quell the interest from other clubs in their bid to lure one of our own from under our noses.
