Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock is still looking for his first goal of the season.

The Englishman has now made five starts in the Premier League this term, and is yet to find the net.

He was probably never going to pick up where he left off at the end of last season.

After all, it was a remarkable run for the 21-year-old when scored a goal in each of his last seven appearances.

But some are beginning to get a little concerned.

Obviously he cost a lot of money, with Newcastle staggering those payments in order to bring him back – something the club don’t normally do.

Willock may be yet to score, but that doesn’t mean he has not been contributing positively.

Interestingly, the star is actually top of the pile in another statistical category.

He leads the way for most tackles in the Premier League so far with 22.

That puts him above Cesar Azpilicueta, Sergi Canos and Allan (all 20).

Willock doing the dirty stuff

While the goals may not yet be flowing for Willock, it’s good to see him doing the dirty side of the game well.

Last term he did showcase an impressive ability to press, and it seems he does have a very industrious side to his game.

As a box-to-box midfielder though, he does need to be chipping in with goals and hopefully he can rediscover that cutting edge soon.

If he can, then Newcastle will be in business.
