Much has been said about Newcastle striker Elias Sorensen’s lack of opportunities during his Carlisle loan this season, but the Dane started in their EFL Trophy game against Wolves Under-23s.
Sorensen has had to wait for an opportunity, and Carlisle manager Steven Pressley used the Trophy game as the perfect time to run his eye over the loanee.
Listed on the Official Carlisle United website as playing in midfield, Sorensen played the full 90 minutes, on a soaking night in Cumbria.
The home side were beaten 2-4, and while Sorensen did not get on the score-sheet, he did get the assist for Carlisle’s second goal.

He was involved in a lot of the good things that Carlisle did during the game, with Sorensen almost getting a second assist, but Hallam Hope was narrowly offside from his through-ball.
Sorensen also had a couple of shots saved in the second-half, in what was a decent performance from the youngster.
Whether he will have done enough to force his way into the starting XI for their League Two game against Oldham on Saturday, remains to be seen, but he will have done himself no harm on Tuesday.
If he does not get more of an opportunity, Newcastle will have a dilemma over whether to recall him ahead of the January transfer window, when they could look to ship him out elsewhere, in the hope of him getting the minutes on the pitch he needs.
