Last week, Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier talked up his former teammate Jan Oblak
The full-back went on BBC Radio 5 Live and actually joked ‘you never know’, when it came to the idea of Newcastle potentially signing the goalkeeper (via La Razon).

Of course, Newcastle still have a lot of work to do to ensure they remain a Premier League club this summer.
But with the team looking so good at the moment, it is difficult not to think about the summer transfer window.
It is possible that Newcastle could look to upgrade on Martin Dubravka.
He has been a wonderful servant for the club. But he is now 33, and it’s possible he could soon start to decline.
Trippier said on the radio that he would love to see Slovenia international Oblak in the Premier League.
Apparently, the 29-year-old has always asked him about the English top-flight, suggesting he would like to come and play here.

Simply put, Newcastle successfully signing Oblak this summer would be an absolutely gargantuan statement of intent.
Without any shadow of a doubt, he has been one of the best players in his position for several years.
He’s been up there with the likes of Manuel Neuer and David De Gea, and has been key in helping Atleti challenge Barcelona and Real Madrid in La Liga.
Atletico have tended to be an excellent defensive unit under Diego Simeone.
Teams struggle to breach their defence and when they do, they’re greeted by Oblak who so often comes in clutch.
Newcastle signing Oblak would be an absolutely massive statement
Oblak will have a year left on his contract with Atletico this summer.
That potentially means they’d consider selling before his value really plummets.
It’s early days for Newcastle following the takeover and signing such a high profile player would likely be very difficult.

But ultimately, the Magpies would be able to afford him and snap up a truly world-class player in the process.
And Trippier could potentially be extremely key to any successful swoop.
The pair have already chatted about the Premier League. Perhaps the England international can convine his former teammate to make a remarkable switch to St. James’ Park.
Oblak is actually not having the best of seasons in 2021/23.
He’s conceded quite a few goals he ought to have saved.
Perhaps this could mean Oblak is ready to start a fresh chapter elsewhere. If there’s any chance Atleti will sell, Newcastle have got to at least try.
