Newcastle United’s Premier League clash against Burnley should tell supporters an awful lot about the depth of Eddie Howe’s latest crisis.
Tuesday’s clash against the Clarets will bring up exactly the halfway point of Newcastle United’s 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
So far, it has been bitterly disappointing, and Howe has to start finding some answers to a series of increasingly difficult questions.
If Newcastle United don’t beat Burnley, where would you stand on Eddie Howe’s future?
Why are Newcastle so bad at defending a lead? What is the issue when playing away from home? Who is in charge of the set-pieces? These are all fair lines of enquiry.
While it’s not as if the whole season has been a complete disaster, the fact his side have only one Premier League win away from home since April must alarm the Newcastle United manager.
The trip to Turf Moor should expose just how much there is left in this crisis.
Newcastle United simply must beat Burnley to end away crisis
The Clarets are struggling against relegation.
They are already eight points adrift from safety in the Premier League table and have lost five of their nine home games thus far. Only two teams (West Ham and Wolves) have lost more at home this season.
Anything other than three points against Scott Parker’s side should raise alarm bells. Newcastle simply have to be winning there.
Our predicted XI vs Burnley! What changes would you make?
The performance doesn’t even need to be all that convincing. Newcastle have played well and lost this season, and few will remember those games.
Such is the extent of Newcastle’s away form crisis; winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing that matters.
Howe is starting to frustrate Newcastle fans and another poor away day will only make those dissenting voices grow louder.
Newcastle United’s Premier League record at Turf Moor in full
Newcastle’s first-ever trip to Turf Moor happened in the 1897/98 season
They lost that game 3-0 and didn’t claim their first win there until November 1899.
In a Premier League context, Newcastle have played seven matches at Turf Moor.

They have won four of them, drawing once and losing the other two.
Howe retains the support of the Newcastle hierarchy for now but a failure to win on Tuesday could raise the pressure on him even more.
Newcastle should win here. Whether they will or not is another matter entirely.
