Newcastle United fans deliver scathing Benjamin Sesko verdict after Man United’s Carabao Cup exit

Newcastle United fans are suddenly not feeling too bad about missing out on Benjamin Sesko.

While Newcastle United’s striker search is still ongoing, supporters got to see what Benjamin Sesko is capable of on Wednesday night. He started for Man United for the first time, as they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town on penalties.

Sesko converted his penalty, but he was actually the 10th Manchester United player to step up. That was quite remarkable considering how much Sesko cost.

It has been a tough start to Sesko’s Man United career, having snubbed the chance to join Newcastle United.

Fast forward a few weeks and Toon fans are suddenly of the belief that they have gotten away with one.

Newcastle United ‘dodged a bullet’ with Benjamin Sesko

On the back of Sesko’s appearance in the Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town, Newcastle United fans have had a lot to say on X.

The general consensus is that Eddie Howe’s side have ‘dodged a bullet’, despite their continued desperation to bring in a striker.

One Toon fan wrote: “Sesko is garbage btw, couldn’t do it against Grimsby, never mind in the league. Dodged a 70m bullet.”

A second supporter added: “Benjamin Sesko is slightly better version of Wout Weghorst. Bet Eddie didn’t even want him. Bullet dodged!”

“Looks like we’ve dodged a bullet not winning the Sesko sweepstakes,” wrote this member of the Toon Army.

Another Newcastle fan added: “Sesko taking the 10th penalty as a £70m striker is pathetic, we dodged a bullet I think.”

Alexander Isak will be berating Benjamin Sesko’s Newcastle United decision

Based on Tuesday night, Newcastle United did not really miss out on Sesko. Alas, he remains a player with massive potential who should go on to have a bright future.

However, that would be more likely had he chosen the PIF project and taken the opportunity to work with Eddie Howe. After all, the Newcastle United manager’s track record of improving players is phenomenal.

But while Toon fans are happy they missed out on Sesko, one man who will be berating the Slovenian striker’s decision is Alexander Isak.

Had Sesko chosen the Magpies, the door would have opened for Isak to join Liverpool. Isak wants to leave, but currently looks unlikely to get his wish due to a lack of viable replacements.

Sesko could have been that replacement, but he opted to join Manchester United instead. It is still early days, but that decision remains curious. And it is one that could force Isak to stay at St James’ Park.
