Newcastle have been linked with a move for Liverpool winger Harry Wilson in recent weeks, but his teammate Ryan Kent could be available for a fraction of the cost.

Kent had a successful season on loan at Ibrox with Rangers last season, with manager Steven Gerrard hoping to lure him back for a second spell next season.

But Liverpool are keeping all options open, with the Daily Record reporting that Jurgen Klopp is “reluctant” to make an early decision on his fringe players.

The Scottish newspaper suggests that Klopp may take the opportunity to mull over his players during pre-season, with both Kent and Wilson given an opportunity to stake a claim to make the first team squad.

Apparently, Aston Villa have been linked with a £10 million move for Kent – which would see the Scottish giants out of the race.

But with Harry Wilson valued at around £25m, Kent could be a cheaper option, which should see Newcastle consider a move.

Benitez wants to strengthen the left wing position this summer

He plays predominantly on the left wing, and that is a position Rafa Benitez is hoping to strengthen this summer.

He found the net six times for Rangers last season, while also having nine assists.

Of course, in an ideal world, Newcastle would be looking at signing both Wilson and Kent, with them both being extremely talented youngsters who will be seen as going on to have a higher sell-on value.

Much depends upon Rafa staying at Newcastle, however, and if he does, his Liverpool connections could see him in the driving seat for any of Liverpool’s young stars available, either on loan or permanently.

Wilson would be a fantastic signing, but an expensive one. Kent, on the other hand, would be a fantastic alternative, and one we think Benitez and Newcastle should seriously consider.
