Newcastle have beaten Leeds United, Everton and Aston Villa to leave and go four points clear of the relegation zone.

It has been a fantastic past couple of weeks for the club, and there is now real optimism that the Magpies can execute a successful safety mission come the end of the season.

It’s West Ham up next, and it’s potentially going to be a difficult game.

The Hammers are flying high again this season, and currently sit fifth in the table.

They’re looking to finish in the top four, and will see this game as a good opportunity for three points.

But Newcastle have wind in their sails right now, and confidence should be high going into the clash.

And one man who might be feeling quite excited for the game is striker Chris Wood.

The New Zealand international joined the club last month from Burnley, but is yet to get off the mark for the Magpies.

Big things are expected of him following his £25 million transfer, and hopefully that first goal will come soon.

The 30-year-old may fancy his chances against the Irons though, as the star has a very good goalscoring record against them.

He has faced them 11 times during his career and scored seven goals against them (via Transfermarkt). There are only two other teams he has scored more goals against – Brighton and Huddersfield Town.

Chris Wood’s record against West Ham should have him feeling confident this weekend

Injured star Callum Wilson is an especially big miss for this fixture as he loves a goal against West Ham. The Englishman has bagged nine in 11 against them Hammers during his career.

But Wood has also had real success down the years. And he should have belief in himself ahead of Saturday’s clash.

He has done OK so far since his move last month.

His link-up play has been fairly decent, but this is a golden opportunity for him to get up and running for his new club.
