Following the takeover of Newcastle United by PIF, several high-profile names have been linked with a move to St James’ Park. Earlier this week, Franck Kessie became the latest to be linked with a switch to the North East.
The AC Milan midfielder is out of contract in the summer. He has already been linked with Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham and now the Magpies are keen.
Amid a host of unrealistic links, perhaps this is the sort of signing that Newcastle should be moving heaven and earth to complete.
Kessie has proved a revelation at the San Siro. He checked in from Atalanta in 2017 and has developed into a fine player; helping the club back into the Champions League last season.

During the 2020/21 campaign, he scored 14 goals and claimed six assists as the Milanese giants finished second in Serie A.
It does look unlikely that Kessie will be signing an extension with AC Milan though. Amid lots of interest, he will be one of the world’s most sought-after free agents come the summer.
Kessie earns £74,000-a-week and that would represent pocket money to Newcastle’s new owners. It’s fair to say that another midfielder or two wouldn’t go amiss either.
Antonio Cassano previously called Kessie ‘devastating’ and he could have the potential to really star in the Premier League.
Realistic: Kessie is the man to kick-start Newcastle era
Some of the names linked with a move up north have been ridiculous! Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and even Harry Kane have been mentioned in the same breath as the Magpies.
Kessie, however, does provide a genuinely realistic option. He wouldn’t cost a fortune in wages and he’d perhaps be interested in the project at Newcastle.

He would add some real presence to the Magpies midfield and he would seriously upgrade the ranks at St James’ Park.
Several new additions will likely arrive during the summer transfer window. In Kessie, Newcastle could pursue a player who would seriously excite the fan base ahead of next season.
PIF have to act and secure a big win for the Magpies.
