According to reports in Portugal, Newcastle United sent scouts to watch Odisseas Vlachodimos in action.
Portuguese media outlet Record reports that scouts from Newcastle, as well as a number of other clubs, watched Vlachodimos play for Benfica.
Benfica faced Bayern Munich in the Champions League and lost 2-0 to the German champions.
But Vlachodimos kept the score respectable with a top performance between the sticks.
Newcastle would rival the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Bundesliga clubs for the 24-year-old.
But do they really need him? We take a look.

The Slovakia international is solid in goal and has contributed to an improved defence.
Rafa Benitez rates the 29-year-old highly and he looks set for a starring role this season.

One for the future
The flip side of the argument is that Vlachodimos is one for the future.
He is only 24, although he has experience at Stuttgart and Panathinaikos prior to joining Benfica.
The former Germany under-21 international could be Newcastle’s long-term option between the sticks.
But where does that leave Freddie Woodman? The England under-21 goalkeeper is already finding game time hard to come by.
He is widely considered as one of the country’s top young goalkeepers. Newcastle must use him as their long-term option instead.
