According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle are losing ground to rivals in the chase for Club Brugges striker Wesley Moraes.
Uncertainty surrounding Rafa Benitez’s future and the potential takeover by the Bin Zayed Group, seems to have cost them their chance to sign the Brazilian forward.
The most annoying aspect of all this, is that we have been predicting this would happen, following the delay in sorting Benitez’s contract out.

The takeover claims, despite bringing hope to Newcastle fans, has been another sideshow that has become a distraction to our summer transfer business.
Yet more galling, is that there appears to be no end in sight to the managerial position, in what has now become an utter farce.

It is no surprise that targets are starting to look elsewhere as the Newcastle fiasco rumbles on at a snail’s pace.
Players in demand will not wait around for Newcastle to sort themselves out
Wesley has been a player in demand this summer, with Lazio having been credited with interest, as well as West Ham.

The Italian side were hopeful of securing the player, before he expressed a preference for the Premier League.
It would have been a great opportunity for the player to operate under Benitez, but with it not known if the Spaniard will be in charge next season, it seems that the player may end up in Rome after all.
This will surely not be that last story claiming we have missed out on a player due to an inability for the football club to get their house in order early.

There are now only 18 days until Rafa Bentiez’s contract officially expires, and the current, ridiculous situation is not helpful to anyone.
The whole scenario – that should have been prevented by having this sorted out before the end of the season – is a complete shambles.
