Newcastle United’s recruitment team will have been blown away by Moussa Diaby’s latest goal for Bayer Leverkusen.
Diaby was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle last summer, but was deemed to be too expensive for Eddie Howe‘s side.
However, the rumours have refused to go away and the Frenchman continues to be mentioned as a potential transfer target for the Magpies.
He has been described as Newcastle’s ‘dream‘ signing, with Dan Ashworth reportedly making a fresh inquiry for the winger in January. It has also been claimed by 90min in Germany that Newcastle will be interested in the 23-year-old this summer.
Newcastle are set to be in the market for attacking reinforcements, and it would not be a surprise if they reignite their interest in Diaby. The Toon recruitment team have proven over the past year that they are more than willing to revisit targets if they miss out.
And perhaps they will be more inclined to do that with Diaby after seeing his latest strike.
What a goal from Moussa Diaby
Leverkusen were in Europa League action on Thursday night, booking their place in the quarter finals with a 4-0 aggregate win over Hungarian side Ferencvaros.
Diaby was the star of the show in this week’s away leg, getting a goal and assist for Xabi Alonso’s side. He opened the scoring in the third minute, and what a goal it was.
A clever pass was dinked down the line to the France international, who claimed possession just past the halfway line. He then showed incredible speed and strength to get past his man, all the while remaining in complete control of the ball.
Diaby then composed himself in the box, and finished calmly with his right foot. He later got an assist too, which means he has got 19 goal contributions in all competitions so far.
He could link up well with Kieran Trippier at Newcastle
It was a special goal from Diaby, and the kind of strike you could see him scoring if he moved to Newcastle.
We have seen the linkup between Kieran Trippier and Miguel Almiron down the Magpies’ righthand side all season. They have a great understanding, with Trippier constantly getting the Paraguayan in behind with a clever lofted pass.
The type of passes that the 32-year-old has been playing was just like the one that Diaby received on Thursday night, and it resulted in him scoring a stunner.
He is certainly someone we would love to see in a black and white shirt next season.
