Newcastle have sent scouts to watch 20-year-old defender, it could be bad news for Lewis Hall

Newcastle United are understood to be keen on adding a new defender to their ranks this summer which could massively impact Lewis Hall.

Eddie Howe revealed in his press conference that signing Hall permanently from Chelsea was all but a done deal, though he’s rarely been used this season.

A new report from HITC is claiming that Newcastle have been scouting Borussia Monchengladbach defender Luca Hintz who is now wanted by several Premier League clubs.

Newcastle in the race for exciting young defender

Netz has really impressed in Germany this season and has attracted interest from several top clubs including Newcastle as they look to improve their options at left-back for next season.

Dan Burn hasn’t been in the best vein of form as of late having previously been dropped for Tino Livramento who actually prefers to play on the right, though now Burn has been given his spot back in the team.

With Livramento wanting to fill in more often for Kieran Trippier, Howe may want to explore the market for a new option on the left and Netz has emerged as an exciting talent with bags of potential.

Man City had wanted to sign him a couple of years ago though a move never materialised, now Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal are all in the race alongside Newcastle to secure the defender whose overall game on both fronts is very impressive.

Hall could be further down the pecking order for Newcastle

Many Newcastle supporters were excited about the addition of Hall who looked to be a top prospect at Chelsea despite his limited experience in the first team, but the potential was certainly there.

Signed initially on a loan deal, it does look like the teenager will still be a Newcastle player next year, but should they look to sign a new defender he could see his playing time reduced even more.

Hall has only made eight Premier League apperances for the Magpies with just one of those in the starting 11 when he was subbed off at half-time in the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

The possible addition of Netz does make you wonder what the season will look like for Hall next year and if Howe has something planned for him, especially considering he will have cost the club around £28m.
