Newcastle were recently linked with a move for Sevilla right-winger Rony Lopes, as Steve Bruce aims to strengthen an area that was not addressed during the summer transfer window.
Should Newcastle firm up any interest in the Portuguese international, it seems they may have received a huge boost, with Spanish media outlet Gol Digital claiming that Lopes will be allowed to leave the Spanish side.
The winger only signed for Sevilla from Monaco in August for £22 million, but despite that, the report claims Lopes does not figure in the plans of manager Julen Lopetegui.
Lopetegui was only appointed manager of the La Liga side in July, and it would appear that any decision to sign Lopes was decided by his predecessors.
That could prove to be good news for Bruce, with the Spanish report claiming that the player will leave in January, and that Newcastle are the side who have shown the biggest interest.
Rony Lopes is not the only winger linked to Newcastle
Newcastle have also been linked with Hull City’s talented youngster Jarrod Bowen, with the winger currently lighting up the Championship with some very impressive displays.
Both players have a good knowledge of the English game, but neither have Premier League experience, with Bowen playing in the second tier, and Lopes having played in the youth set-up at Manchester City, and having made a small number of cup appearances while there.
Lopes has seen just 44 minutes of competitive action for Sevilla so far, which is a clear sign that he may not be part of the manager’s first-team plans.
Whoever Newcastle try to bring in, it is essential that they sign a right-winger, with the early weeks of the season blatantly showing a lack of creativity on that flank.
