Ahmed Elmohamady has been released by Aston Villa – and Newcastle United fans are worried.
The Egyptian’s contract at Villa Park expires next month, and they have confirmed that he won’t be getting a fresh deal.
That means he’ll be a free agent this summer, which has caused some panic among the Toon Army.
It looks like money will be tight at St James’ Park this summer. There have even been reports that Steve Bruce will only have £12million to spend.
That means we’ll have to rely heavily on free agents and loan deals.
There’s been talk of a loan move for Ross Barkley, while free transfers for Jetro Willems and Andros Townsend have been rumoured.
But is it only a matter of time before the Elmohamady to Newcastle rumours start?
The defender certainly has history with our manager.
Bruce first brought him to England in 2010, back when he was Sunderland boss.
Since then, the pair have almost inseparable. Bruce re-signed Elmohamady at Hull, and then again at Aston Villa.
Bruce has signed Elmohamady on three separate occasions. But will there be a fourth?
Toon fans are praying it doesn’t happen, and at the moment there’s no reason to believe it will.
Elmohamady is 33-years-old, while Newcastle have multiple options at right-back.
But until he signs for another club, the fear will remain for Newcastle supporters.
