Newcastle hero, and now former manager, Rafa Benitez has been confirmed as manager of Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang.

The Spaniard tweeted about the “new chapter” following his acrimonious departure from the Magpies, which became official on Sunday.

While Newcastle potter around aimlessly without a manager, signing or new owner, Rafa wasted no time making his next move, and there are 12 million reasons why it would not have been too difficult a decision for him.

He is a huge loss to the Toon, and those at the top may only realise how big that loss is, or what they had, by the end of next season.

Many fans, myself included, could not see Benitez moving to China, particularly given his love for being around his family, but that is where he has gone.

An offer of an alleged £12 million seems to have been simply too good to turn down.

A month of intrigue ahead for Newcastle fans

With protests and boycotts being mooted by fans, it will be an interesting month ahead for everyone concerned with the club, but with the latest developments, even if the hoped for takeover goes through, there will be no immediate emotional return for Rafa, as he has built a reputation for never breaking a contract.

Newcastle fans are devastated at losing their beloved manager, but were quick to wish him well following the announcement.
