Former Newcastle loanee Kenedy was on the move from Chelsea during the European transfer deadline day, as he penned a season-long loan deal at La Liga side Getafe.
Having been superb on Tyneside during his first loan spell at the club from January 2018, he failed to have much – if any – of an impact last season, which meant a permanent deal was never on the cards.
With the player being linked with a move to Championship side Reading earlier last month, a move to Spain seems ideal for the Brazilian.
It is such a shame that he did not make a success of his stint on Tyneside, with him showing what talent he has during his first few months here.
He was instrumental in saving Newcastle from yet another drop to the Championship that season, and although he struggled last campaign, most fans will prefer to remember the fantastic player from the previous one.
He never seemed to get a fair chance at Chelsea, and another move away from Stamford Bridge seemed inevitable.
Move to Getafe hardly seems a backward step for Kenedy
One Newcastle fans’ Twitter account suggested the move to Getafe was a sign of a player’s career going into free-fall, but some Newcastle fans have been quick to point out that with him playing in the Europa League, it could actually be seen as a step up from Newcastle.
Certainly we wish him well in his new adventure, and we will remember him for the brilliant three months or so he had when he first adorned the famous black and white shirt.
Here are some of the comments from Newcastle fans:
Tbf, I thought this was a decent move for him considering he nearly joined Reading last month!

Getafe’s hardly a ‘career free fall’, a team who finished fifth last season trying to add depth to their side for their europa league campaign this year. Honestly think it’s a positive move for both sides..

His first loan with us was unbelievable. I was so excited when we got him for the whole season after but he never continued that great form we first saw. It’s a real shame because he does have talent.

Great move for him.
Hard to see him fulfilling his potential with his fragile mentality though.
He’ll always be a very up & down player seems to crumble mentally when in bad form.

Very strange form trajectory. Had an ace season with us, came back and had an excellent first game v Spurs then next game v Cardiff had one of the worst performers I’ve ever seen from an NUFC player, seemed to have lost all his confidence and never properly recovered,

Based on last year with us I’d say he’s done well tbh!
