Javi Manquillo might not be a Newcastle player for much longer.

The Spaniard’s contract expires in the summer of 2020, and the Telegraph report that West Ham, Brighton and Crystal Palace are eyeing a cut-price deal.

Considering how much Manquillo has improved, it’s no surprise there’s Premier League interest. While he’s far from the best, Manquillo is solid and versatile. Whether it’s on the left or the right of a back four or a back five, he can do a job. He’s dependable.

He’s been excellent since returning to the starting XI against Manchester City, having struggled to get a game ahead of DeAndre Yedlin and Emil Krafth.

But Yedlin’s injury opened a door, and Manquillo was there to seize the opportunity ahead of the Swede.

If Krafth had done better since arriving this summer, the possibility of losing Manquillo wouldn’t be a concern. But the former Amiens defender has been poor, if anything making Manquillo look better.

Newcastle fans have reacted to the reported interest from West Ham and co, sending them a clear message.
