Martin Dubravka was the talk of the town after that debut against Manchester United for all the right reasons. After the Leicester thrashing, fans were talking about the goalkeeper for the wrong reasons.
After an incredible start to life as a Magpie, Dubravka’s 2019 has been much tougher. We’ve seen mistakes creeping into his game that were nonexistent when he first joined the club.

Against Leicester, the Newcastle number one was shocking, just like all of his teammates. It was a horrendous performance from start to finish, and one where no player could really come out of it with any credit.
Leicester had five shots on target on Sunday afternoon. Dubravka made one save, and that was just after kick off from former teammate Ayoze Perez, who was offside anyway. Everything else that came Dubravka’s way went in, including Dennis Praet’s wayward effort that found the net via a Paul Dummett deflection.

Jamie Vardy’s first goal was a particularly low moment for the Newcastle goalkeeper. He was beaten at his front post from a tight angle – that should never happen.
It’s not the first error we’ve seen from Dubravka this season. He was at fault as Sadio Mane put Liverpool ahead the other week at Anfield.
We’ve seen in the past that he can be a top goalkeeper and a leader for Newcastle. We desperately need an upturn in fortunes from one of the most reliable players of the Rafa Benitez era.
