The prospective Newcastle takeover took another turn today, when the Bin Zayed Group released a statement to clarify the current position.
The new update – which we reported on earlier – was released due to the mounting speculation. It is largely positive and is sure to see excitement among fans build.
The group claim “terms have been agreed” between the two parties, but they intriguingly add that there is a “document signed by both parties” and has been submitted to the Premier League.

They also say proof of funds was forwarded to Mike Ashley’s lawyers on April 17 – contradicting some reports which claimed no such proof had been submitted.
They finish off by saying they are doing all they can to assist the Premier League with the fit-and-proper process.

Fans are starting to demand answers from the club
Sky Sports’ Pete Graves tweeted about the update, and it certainly prompted a huge response.
In light of the explicit claims in the group’s statement, and conflicting reports, it seems that an official comment is needed from Newcastle United, the Premier League or Ashley himself, as fans have been quick to point out.
