Newcastle fans react to Gazza’s controversial comments about Steve Bruce

Newcastle appointed Steve Bruce as head coach on Wednesday, to the dismay of Newcastle fans, but former player Paul Gascoigne has told fans to get behind the new man who he called a “winner”.

During an interview on talkSPORT, Gazza backed Bruce to be a success on Tyneside, and called him a “great appointment” having “played with the best”.

Maybe Gazza has not realised he is coming in as a coach and not a centre-back, meaning who he played alongside is a total irrelevance to his managerial capabilities.

For Gascoigne to call him a winner, suggests that he is big-upping a mate, rather than looking at statistics from his managerial career, which are underwhelming, at best.

Bruce is a journeyman, and is one of the so-called ‘merry-go-round’ managers, who are linked to every job going, along with the likes of Tony Pulis, Mark Hughes, Steve McClaren and more.

Sometimes Gazza does himself no favours by trying to insert himself into the news from nowhere – lest we forget his middle of the night appearance in Rothbury during the infamous police stand-off with Raoul Moat.

Gazza’s comments are not helpful and not accurate

His comments are not helpful, and have added to the perceived talkSPORT narrative that Newcastle fans are selfish and deluded, with a sense of entitlement.

The truth, of course, is we are nothing of the sort.

Fans reacted against their former hero, which shows the depth of feeling aginst Bruce’s appointment.
