Newcastle’s Ayoze Perez is on the radar of La Liga side Valencia, in a move that the player is said to be “delighted” at the prospect of, according to Spanish reports yesterday.

As we wrote previously, he is a player that fans either love or hate, but is someone who always finds the net in crucial games.

When he is on song, he can be unplayable, but when he is not, he is often conspicuous by his absence.

His renowned celebration of standing facing the crowd with his fingers entrenched firmly in his ears, is a direct reference to the fan-reaction to some of those not-so-hot performances.

Few players have split opinion as much as Ayoze Perez

There are two other players in recent times that seemed to completely divide fans, and they were Hatem Ben Arfa and Laurent Robert.

Ben Arfa was often criticised for his enigmatic displays, while Robert had some fans questioning his defensive work without the ball, with others arguing that he was not on the pitch to defend.

Yet both the Frenchmen were seen as something of a luxury-type of player. Perez, however, is different, as he does do a lot of work without the ball, and is often chasing around as defenders play the ball out from the back.

One thing is for sure, as long as Perez is wearing a black and white shirt, his ability will continue to be debated between fans.

Here are a few reactions to the report:
