Four Premier League clubs are looking for a new manager, yet none seem to be interested in Newcastle boss Steve Bruce.
Everton became the latest side to be looking for a new manager on Tuesday when Carlo Ancelotti packed his bags and went back to Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Tottenham still haven’t found a replacement for Jose Mourinho. Wolves and Crystal Palace, who finished just below Newcastle, also need new managers.
Big names have been linked with all four jobs, from Mauricio Pochettino to Rafa Benitez, from Steven Gerrard to Nuno Espirito Santo.
Yet Bruce’s name has failed to crop up as a possible option. So why is that?
Throughout Bruce’s tenure at Newcastle, pundits have lavished praise on the 60-year-old. They have heralded the incredible job he has been doing. Although they went slightly quiet during his run of two wins in 20 games.
In the end, the Magpies finished 12th with 45 points. They avoided relegation, despite it looking a certainty after the Brighton defeat in March.
Bruce even asked his doubters to give him credit for the achievement of finishing 12th despite not wanting to call it an achievement.
“We’ll never say it’s an achievement to finish 12th for a club of our stature but it’s an achievement,” he told the Chronicle after beating Fulham.
“I hope the people who have written us off, they’ll eat humble pie and give us some credit.”
Gabby Agbonlahor stated that Newcastle fans owe him an apology.
