Newcastle fans finally returned to St James’ Park on Wednesday night, and they were treated to an Allan Saint-Maximin masterclass.

It was the final home game of the season for the Magpies, and their first in front of supporters.

While the football has been rotten at times this season, the fans inside the ground witnessed some wonderful displays.

However, Saint-Maximin was the star of the show.

The Frenchman was at his scintillating best, running past Sheffield United players at will. They simply couldn’t stop him.

He played an important role in the only goal of the game. It was his wonderful pass out to Jacob Murphy that led to Joe Willock finding the net.

Saint-Maximin was a constant threat, continuing his good form since returning from injury. If it wasn’t for him, perhaps we still wouldn’t be safe.

But we are, and Saint-Maximin put on a show for the returning supporters.

We saw dancing feet and incredible skill. He even offered up a no-look pass.

Sadly, his evening ended early due to injury. Saint-Maximin was replaced in the 71st minute due to a knee problem.

It might be the end of Saint-Maximin’s season, but what a way to go out.

The fans inside St James’ Park showed their appreciation to the 24-year-old, and he was lauded on Twitter as well.
