Two goals and a clean sheet. It was the perfect away performance from Newcastle United, and Ciaran Clark was crucial in securing another valuable three points.

The Republic of Ireland international started at the heart of the back three and once again led by example. Jonjo Shelvey might have had the armband, but he wasn’t the only leader in dark green.

Sheffield United’s brand of football has proved difficult to handle this season, resulting in an impressive start to the campaign for the Blades. But Clark and co dealt with pretty much everything that came their way, winning all their individual duels and putting their bodies on the line.

And when the defence was breached, Martin Dubravka was on standby to pull off another set of stunning saves, just like he did against Manchester City.

Clark was nowhere near the starting XI at the start of the season, but now he seems undroppable. He’s been one of our best players since he came into the team against Manchester United. Long may this run of form continue.
