The day after another toothless attacking performance from Newcastle, the Chronicle reported that they were eyeing a January move for Victor Osimhen.

The young striker has been sensational so far for Lille this season, with seven Ligue 1 goals making him the second top scorer.

He fits the profile of a Newcastle United target. He’s young and has stacks of potential, meaning we could sell him on in the future for a huge profit.

That’s exactly why we pushed the boat out to make Joelinton our record signing. But so far, things haven’t worked out for the £40 million man. The Brazilian has just one goal for the Magpies, netting the winner against Spurs earlier in the season.

He was heavily criticised once again after the Chelsea defeat, with some questioning his ability while others ponder what he’s meant to do with limited service.

And these are the same sort of questions that have been asked of Osimhen. While he’s on fire at the minute, he’s unproven in the Premier League. We need a reliable source of goals and there’s no guarantee that the Nigerian would be a hit at St James’ Park.

We’ve signed a lot of players from France in years gone by with varying degrees of success. For every Yohan Cabaye there’s an Emmanuel Riviere.

It’s clear that Newcastle need a lift in the final third, but some fans aren’t sure if just bringing in another young striker is the answer.

Some Newcastle fans think Osimhen is the answer, but others don’t
