Football supporters are a savvy bunch, and Newcastle fans are at the top of the tree when it comes to knowing what is going on – or not – at their club.
With that in mind, many Toon fans are very cynical when it comes to linked players at the present time, with so many outstanding issues at the club.
The scepticism is well-founded, and it is highly unlikely that Newcastle will be placing bids for players while they are still unaware of whether Rafa Benitez will be in charge in two weeks time.
Of course, it may be that the club are aware of Rafa’s decision, and that work on player recruitment could be ongoing in the background, prior to a formal announcement.

It is unlikely, however, as with season ticket renewals in full swing, an announcement that Benitez was staying would significantly enhance sales.

Winger Jefferson Savarino, available for £6million and linked to Newcastle by Sky Sports, is an intriguing one. He has all the hallmarks of a Newcastle signing, and currently playing in the MLS, he is likely to be cheaper than many European-based players of a similar standard.
