This week sees a full round of midweek Premier League fixtures, with them all being shown live on Amazon Prime, including Newcastle’s game at Sheffield United on Thursday.

Eyebrows were raised when both Alan Shearer and Michael Owen were announced as two of the pundits being used by the broadcaster, with the two embroiled in a bitter falling out.

The pair’s feud was reignited with the release of Owen’s book, with Shearer publicly criticising him over his attitude during his spell on Tyneside.

Many Newcastle fans – and probably neutrals too – had hoped to see the pair sitting together on the set for one of the live games, with a chance of a very frosty atmosphere between them.

But Amazon announced their broadcast teams for each game, and disappointingly, Shearer and Owen have been kept apart.

Shearer and Owen could be paired together on Boxing Day

The Newcastle legendary number nine will be covering Tuesday’s top game between Burnley and Manchester City, alongside Newcastle supporter and Newcastle United Foundation Patron Gabby Logan. Other pundits for the game are Roberto Martinez and Nigel de Jong.

Owen will be part of the team for the less mouth-watering game between Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, along with Lee Dixon and Eni Aluko. The presenter will be Eilidh Barbour.

Of course, there is another round of fixtures being broadcast by Amazon on Boxing Day, and it remains to be seen if they stick the two former Newcastle players together for those games.

Boxing Day would be an appropriate day for them to meet, with perhaps a charity boxing match being the ideal way for the pair to settle their feud – as long as Owen did not have to pull out through ‘injury’ of course!
