Newcastle fans know only too well what a nuisance Aleksandar Mitrovic can be, but the Serbian looks to be using those qualities to his advantage at Fulham.

The loan striker has already made an impact at Craven Cottage, proving a menace in Fulham’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on his first start on Saturday.

After an additional two substitute appearances, Mitrovic has likely done enough to keep his place for another big clash with Bristol City on Wednesday.

But the 23-year-old is still waiting on his first goal of 2018 and, assuming his plan is to head back to Newcastle, he has done little so far to impress Rafa Benitez.

Rafa already has two non-goalscoring forwards in Joselu and Dwight Gayle, so he will need Mitrovic to offer more, even if he is surely pleased to see the former Anderlecht man settling down and working hard.

Fulham are one of the best teams in the Championship and are pushing for promotion, so there is no excuse for Mitrovic not to be among the goals.

Given he is featuring alongside Tom Cairney – a man Rafa identified as a creative force and potential signing – there will be no shortage of chances either.

As Joselu and Gayle continue to flounder and Newcastle wait on Islam Slimani’s debut, there is still an opportunity for Mitrovic to regain his place at St James’ Park.

He must start finding the net, though, for Rafa will be watching.

The forward’s Newcastle career may well be decided away from NE1 in the coming weeks and months.
