Miguel Almiron was a positive in Newcastle’s stalemate

Newcastle let a win slip from their grasp against Wolves on Sunday, with Lascelles’ first-half goal cancelled out by Castro Otto’s 73rd minute equaliser, following a Martin Dubravka mistake.

It left supporters feeling flat as they trudged from the stadium, but it was not all bad news, as Miguel Almiron put his recent struggles behind him, looking back to his best form.

He did not get the goal he craved, but on an afternoon where he continually tormented a Wolves back-line, he had one or two close calls, and on any other day, he would have found the net for the first time as a Toon player.

His pace proved too much for the visiting defence to handle, and with the twin wide threat of Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin running directly at them, Newcastle could, and should, have had the game sewn up before the equalising goal.

The first-half saw Newcastle offer a constant threat, with Wolves, although having their moments, rarely troubling the Newcastle goal.

But Newcastle sat deeper after the break, which saw the visitors on the front-foot for longer spells, but Almiron was still a menace for the home side, with him dragging defenders around the pitch.

Almiron still needs a goal, despite better performance

It is just a shame that he did not get the goal his performance deserved, which would have been just reward for the Paraguayan.

For once, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to sing the praises of the South American, and with more performances like this from him, surely his elusive goal will arrive very soon.

Here are some of the reactions to Almiron’s display:
