It was a bad afternoon for Newcastle against Leicester, but one Toon player can hold his head high – Martin Dubravka.
Had it not been for the Slovakian, we could have lost by much more than three. And he had no chance with any of the goals. Florian Lejeune handed Ayoze Perez a goal, while James Maddison and Hamza Choudoury’s strikes were world class.
But throughout the afternoon Dubravka was on hand to make some stunning saves. While individual errors and injuries resigned Newcastle to a heavy defeat, the goalkeeper certainly didn’t give up.
It’s been said time and time again, but what a signing he’s been. While some errors have crept into his game, some of the saves Dubravka makes are sensational. He’s rescued us so many times this season, with no keeper in the Premier League making more saves than him.
The Magpies have 25 points so far this season, and it’s fair to say Dubravka has played a massive role in winning most of them. On a bad day for the Toon, some fans took time to rightfully praise the number one.
Dubravka singled out for praise on a bad start to 2020
Personally, I felt Joelinton did OK today, he tried to hold up play, link the play, etc. Muto did nowt to help him, seems to have forgotten how to run a support line or actually offer any assistance…! Glad we’ve got Dubravka in goal mind, else it might have got silly. #nufc

Imagine where we’d be without dubravka

Sorry, I shall rephrase my wording, Dubravka brilliant. Almiron, exceptional work ethic (but not brilliant)

Absolute embarrassment. All the players today except Dubravka and Schar should be ashamed of themselves

Time for excuses have got to stop like… Joelinton is awful, Lejuene has been shite, Dubravka has stopped this being 6 or 7…rotten #nufc
