Man United lose Marcus Rashford for a few games – Perfect time for Newcastle to open up a gap

Manchester United have today confirmed that their main goal source, Marcus Rashford is to miss a few games after picking up an injury, which means Newcastle United could now open up a points gap in the Champions League race.

One man doth not maketh a team, but in the case of Manchester United you could argue that two do. Casemiro and Marcus Rashford have both been revelations for Man United this year and it’s because of the performances of them that they’re now pushing Newcastle for the Premier League third spot.

Casemiro missed four games through suspension recently and as a result Man United struggled, dropping points against Newcastle at St James’ Park and are now going to miss their main goal scorer for the next few games.

Rashford’s goals have been key to Man United’s success

Even though they’ll have Casemiro back, with nobody to put the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis like Rashford was, there’s a good chance that Erik ten Hag‘s boys are going to struggle for goals until the England star returns.

That leaves the door wide open for Newcastle to put some distance between them and Man U over the next couple of weeks. If nothing else, it has to be used as an incentive. There’ll not be a better chance than now to open up a precious gap.

Newcastle still need to be on top of their game

The added bonus is that we have a game against our other top-four rivals, Tottenham to come after Saturday’s tricky tie at Aston Villa.

If Newcastle can pick up a win against Tottenham while Man United are potentially struggling, that could be massive in the bid for the Champions League places.

Of course we need to overcome Unai Emery‘s resurgent Villa side on Saturday first which I feel will be a trickier task than Tottenham at home.
