Newcastle fans were met with more takeover speculation this morning, with a report claiming a group of Mexican businessmen met in London with Mike Ashley over a potential deal.
If the report is accurate, and Ashley was indeed “rude” in his attitude towards them, it begs the question of whether he has any true intention of selling the club, despite his continuous protestations that he does?
It is hardly the way to treat someone you are hoping to coax £350 million from.
It suggests someone who wants to give off an air of bravado that he does, while the reality may be a reluctance to let go of his asset.
Also, as has been pointed out by a fan on Twitter, quite why Ashley would be personally involved with a prospective investor at such a, presumably, early stage of negotiations is another issue.
It suggests there may be little to suggest the validity of any such meeting, or whether there were any serious discussions regarding the actual sale of the club at all.
Lee Ryder from the Chronicle suggests that Ashley will sell, if his valuation is met, but his line adding “no party has come anywhere near bidding the asking price” tells its own story.
Of course, it may be surprising to a group of businessmen from Mexico that the Newcastle owner could act in such a disrespectful way, but it will come as no shock to Toon fans.
Nothing suggests Newcastle will be sold any time soon
Regardless of all the bluff and bluster around various alleged deals over recent years, the club still remains in the hands of the high street mogul, and in all honesty, it is likely to do so for a while yet.
We all hope it is not the case, but as long as stories like this emerge, there is little evidence to suggest a sale will happen in the near future.
Fans have long since become tired of all the claims and counter-claims, and their reaction to the reports on social media reinforce the feeling of disillusionment.
Are we near a transfer window opening?

Can’t for one minute believe anything to do with any sale
First issue is “Mike Ashley met…”. There is NO WAY Mike Ashley is meeting people to negotiate a sale. The initial meetings including due diligence would NOT involve Mike personally

I’m sure he is but His “right price” is unreasonable, too high and not going to happen.

He will make the conditions so ridiculous that nobody will touch it.. Keep a big chunk of club revenue… Keep ground advertising, essentially not for sale, he can then claim interested parties are “tyre kickers” and continue to cream off his TV money #boycottwolves
