According to an ‘exclusive’ by the Shields Gazette, the Newcastle takeover has hit a bump in the road.
They claim that the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s interest has cooled, and that instead they could move for Manchester United.
The Gazette claim that the leaks have angered the potential buyers, whilst Amanda Staveley’s involvement has also caused issues.
Where to begin?
If the Saudi PIF are angry about their interest in Newcastle being leaked, how will they feel about their potential move for Manchester United being plastered all over the press?
And if they’re so angry about the leaks, where are the leaks actually coming from?
The article cites the source as ‘sources close to talks’, but later states the PIF were yet to comment on the matter despite being approached. All the while, Newcastle maintain their ‘no comment’ stance.
So if PIF haven’t said anything and neither have Newcastle, who are the ‘sources close to talks’? Surely the talks are only between the buyer and the seller.
While we don’t know who the Gazette’s sources are, their latest takeover ‘update’ provides more questions than answers.
And at a time where fans are desperate for clarity, the report only serves to muddy the waters even more.
