There has been a new development on the prospective Newcastle takeover by GACP Sports, the investment company fronted by Peter Kenyon, with the Shields Gazette providing the latest update.
Having previously set up a pair of companies in America with a view to using them in a potential Newcastle buyout, they have now formulated a new listing – GACP Newcastle Investors (U.S.), LLC – based out of Delaware in the United States.
The report said this new company “would be the vehicle used to bring investment into the model from outside the of the U.S.”, while yet another newly created company GACP Newcastle Investors Ltd (Cayman Limited Company) will be used for investment from inside America.
I am no business expert, and can just about organise my weekly shopping budget, but setting up these companies does signal a genuine intent from the group.
The report, however, does stress these companies by no means suggest a deal is certain, or even close, but it does show they are pressing on with their plans.
It may never happen but GACP Sports obviously have real interest
So the group seemingly do want to buy the football club, and have an intention to try to do just that, but having the will to make a deal, and having the finances in place to be able to, are two completely different things.
I, and many thousand other fans, would want to buy the club from its current owner, but I am just a mere £350m away from Mike Ashley’s asking price.
And for all the announcements of companies being created in all corners of the globe, there has been little reported to suggest they have the money to back up their intentions, or even if Ashley would be remotely interested in a deal at their mooted £300 million bid.
While I refuse to get carried away by anything until it is firmly acknowledged by the current hierarchy at St James’ Park, the latest report suggests there is still genuine interest from parties trying to wrestle control from Ashley.
And while it may yet be a long way off, fans will surely cling on to any little thread of hope that is dangled their way.
