Newcastle’s players put in a monumental shift for Steve Bruce today, as they twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Premier League champions Manchester City.

To a man, everyone contributed, often throwing their bodies on the line to stay in the game, but none of them were better than the superb Jetro Willems, who was deservedly named man of the match.

The partnership he is building up with the every impressive Allan Saint-Maximin looks as though it could be the future of Newcastle United for years to come – if they can turn Willems’ loan deal into a permanent one.

It seems a long time ago since that first game of the season, where he came on as a substitute against Arsenal, and did not appear to know what he was doing.

Now, he must be one of the first names on the team-sheet for Steve Bruce, and quite what the manager will do when Matt Ritchie is eventually fit again, is anyone’s guess, with the Dutchman currently looking undroppable.

Willems got his second goal for Newcastle

His goal against Pep Guardiola’s side ended a brilliant move, and also saw Miguel Almiron get his first assist for Newcastle, and was a superb shot.

It was Willems’ second goal for Newcastle, his other being in the game at Liverpool, and despite having a wand of a left foot, both came with fantastic right-footed strikes.

Newcastle fans were delighted with the point, and were enthusing about their new left-wing-back hero, and hoping they can get him signed up to a permanent contract as soon as possible.

Here are some of the fans’ comments from Twitter after the game, with manby of them sending the football club the same message:
