Newcastle United are being met with frustration at every turn this summer but may have been handed a boost in regard to Yoane Wissa.
Wissa is a leading Newcastle transfer target as the club look to bring in a striker to cover and compete with Alexander Isak in equal measure.
Brentford star Wissa scored 19 Premier League goals last season, so looks a logical addition to the Newcastle United squad in the wake of Callum Wilson’s exit on a free transfer.
Tottenham are also interested in Wissa, though Brentford surely won’t want to lose both him and fellow star forward Bryan Mbeumo in the same summer. Newcastle tried to sign Mbeumo, but Manchester United won the race.
Still, it seems Wissa wants to follow him through the exit door.

Yoane Wissa wants to leave Brentford
According to BBC Sport, Wissa wants to leave the west London club this summer.
Brentford are understood to have tried to open contract talks with the 28-year-old. Wissa’s deal expires next summer, though the Bees have the option of extending it by another 12 months.
The forward is said to have privately indicated he would like to leave during what remains of the summer transfer window.
Though Brentford don’t want to sell, there’s a feeling that a bid of £40million could be something to consider. Wissa will turn 29 in September, so selling this summer could be a way of extracting something approaching his actual market value.
Time for Newcastle United to accelerate Yoane Wissa move
Newcastle lost 4-0 to Celtic on Saturday, highlighting the limitations in Eddie Howe’s squad.
They need firepower. With Isak missing for various reasons, the Toon looked toothless in attack. Even if Newcastle end up keeping Isak, they’ll need someone of Wissa’s profile in the squad and time is already ticking down ahead of the new Premier League season.
Newcastle need to act quickly to sign Wissa given the level of interest in the player. Nottingham Forest are also keen on a move.
| 2024/25 statistics | Yoane Wissa |
| Games | 35 |
| Goals | 19 |
| Assists | 4 |
| Shots/90 | 2.6 |
| Key passes/90 | 0.8 |
Clearly, he wants to leave this summer. Brentford drive a hard bargain but the fact he has at most two years left on his deal remaining should force their hand somewhat. They will surely not want him to go into his final year with no resolution made.
It’s a situation Newcastle might find themselves in with Isak next summer, unless he pens a new contract anytime soon.
Newcastle simply have to be ruthless and do all they can to bring Wissa to St James’ Park imminently.
