Fans have suffered a number of false dawns over potential bids to buy Newcastle from Mike Ashley, but recent actions are surely suggesting a real bid is arriving soon.

After months – if not years – of rumours and speculation regarding interested parties and alleged talks, nothing has ever materialised, leaving supporters wondering if there will ever be a new owner.

One of the names credited with an interest in taking the club off Ashley’s hands, is GACP Sports, with Peter Kenyon supposedly fronting a potential bid for the club.

They produced a brochure, outlining their business plan and vision for the future of the club, which was leaked to the media, but many fans dismissed it, due to some errors contained in it.

Although nothing concrete followed it, recent signs could point towards an official bid being imminent.

They set up some new companies, not only in America, but also in the Cayman Islands and Jersey. These new companies were reportedly to be used as vehicles for the investment side of a bid.

Ongoing interest reportedly stopped DaGrosa discussing Newcastle at a recent event

As well as that, GACP Sports’ CEO, Joseph DaGrosa, spoke at a Soccerex event in Miami a week ago, about football finances and why American investors are currently so keen to invest in football.

But sources close to DaGrosa said he had refused to speak about Newcastle United, due to their ongoing interest and him not wanting to ruin ongoing negotiations with the football club, according to a report in the Chronicle.

Finally, a report emerged in the last couple of days, that DaGrosa, whose GACP Sports own a 13.6 per cent stake in Ligue 1 side Bordeaux, could be prepared to have his share of the club bought out “due to a desire to fund new investments”.

That desire is said to be creating tension between GACP and the Bordeaux majority shareholders, which has led to the latest speculation.

That new investment for GACP could well be Newcastle United, and fans will surely hope that is the case.

When you look at all the pointers, and read between the lines, it certainly sounds like there could be something on the horizon, although it remains to be seen if any offer they may make would be acceptable to Ashley.

It is definitely one to keep an eye on, and fans will all have their fingers crossed that after so many let-downs, this time something could actually happen.
