Newcastle’s winning goal against Bournemouth was a scruffy one, but sneaked in nonetheless, and it was yet another goal from a defender, but which one is up for debate.
The goal was credited to Ciaran Clark, with him seeming to mis-hit a scuffed effort past the despairing keeper, but Federico Fernandez who made the intial goal-bound header, thinks otherwise.
The Argentine centre-back took to Twitter to plead his case for VAR to review the goal and give it to him instead of Clark, through a tongue-in-cheek tweet.
VAR please I think it’s my goal 🤣 https://t.co/iMCxyXd7rl

Both players scored the week before at West Ham, and whoever is credited with their second on Saturday will join Jonjo Shelvey as top scorer at Newcastle.
Of course it is a light-hearted moment, but does not take away from the fact that Newcastle’s defenders have scored a remarkable seven Premier League goals this season – six more than their striking counterparts.

It is a sign of the camaraderie at the club, despite the jockeying for places in the starting lineup among the six centre-backs, and bodes well for the future at the position.
It may be, of course, that Fernandez fancies himself as winning the top-scorer award at the club in May, and any financial bonus that comes with it!

But joking aside, both he and Clark have been two of the success stories at Newcastle in recent weeks, and is testament to the work ethic of the pair, despite the disappointment of spending long spells on the outside of the team, looking in.
Fans were quick to comment of Fernandez’s cheeky request. Here are some of the replies:
The more I see it, the more I’d agree with you. But I have @C___Clark in my dream team. I need the points. Plus VAR would probs give it to @the_dilsh, after about a 2 hour wait.

Fed’s goal. If Clark touched that, I’m a dutchman.
