Ki Sung-Yueng might not be a Newcastle United player for much longer.

That’s according to his father, who has stated that the midfielder wants to leave St James’ Park.

“He’s trying to find a new home in January next year, and the contract with Newcastle is through May,” Ki’s father told South Korean broadcaster KBS.

“The key is whether the club will consider freeing them as a free agent.”

A lot of fans will have forgot all about Ki. The 30-year-old has only featured three times so far this season, looking unimpressive in each appearance.

The last time he played was the 5-0 drubbing at Leicester, where he matched his teammates with a woeful performance of his own.

Ki had some good moments last season, but never really nailed down a place in the starting XI, first under Rafa Benitez and then Steve Bruce.

With his contract set to expire this summer, we should try and get him off the books early. If we can get a little bit of money for him that would be great, considering he arrived on a free in 2018.

Most fans don’t seem fussed about Ki’s possible exit, happy to see him leave and get first-team football elsewhere.
