It has been announced today that countries competing in Euro 2020 will be able to take a squad of 26 players rather than 23, in news that could be a real boost for one Newcastle star.
As reported by The Independent, UEFA has given the green light for squads to be expanded slightly, following a gruelling 2020/21 season that has been played out through the Covid-19 pandemic.

England manager Gareth Southgate will be announcing his squad in the week commencing 24 May, and he has lots of thinking to do between now and then.
The news that he can now choose 26 players is good given how many talented players are currently on the scene.
That three more players can be selected offers a lifeline to those who are perhaps on the fringes, and one man who could benfit is Callum Wilson.

Wilson has four caps for the Three Lions so far, but has not represented his country since October 2019 when he played against Bulgaria in a Euro 2020 qualifier.
Perhaps this development may work in his favour.
A lifeline for Wilson?
Competition for a seat on the plane is very fierce.
In terms of out-and-out strikers, Harry Kane is obviously nailed on, and then Dominic Calvert-Lewin is probably fairly likely to be chosen.
Southgate will probably pick one more, knowing Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden can all play centrally.

Wilson’s competition will likely be Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings.
Hopefully the 29-year-old can finish the season really strongly and give Southgate no choice but to select him.
The situation could actually be good for Newcastle in that, it could really light a fire under Wilson, meaning Toon fans may be able to expect him to play like a man possessed for the final five games.
