Newcastle United played out a 3-3 draw with Brentford in the Premier League yesterday.
Results elsewhere meant that the Magpies have actually now dropped to bottom of the table.
The wait for a first win goes on.
But there were positive signs yesterday, from a team who have spent just a week-and-a-half working with Eddie Howe.
Newcastle had 23 shots in the game, with nine of those on target.
Clearly there has already been already a stylistic change.
Newcastle looked threatening going forwards, but at the back it is worrying.
On Match of the Day last night, Alan Shearer expressed his concern about Newcastle’s backline, and said of Karl Darlow on the Ivan Toney goal: “There were so many mistakes all over the place.
“Darlow there, it’s a basic error, he had a really poor game. He looked really nervous.”
It’s a view lots of supporters on social media have been sharing, with many calling for Martin Dubravka to return to the side.
Dubravka must replace Darlow following Shearer verdict
It was quite a surprise to see Darlow retain his place in the starting XI.
The English stopper has not been in good form this season and has conceded a lot of goals.
He has made a number of errors, and it is surely now time for Dubravka to come back in.
Not only is the £4.5 million Slovakia international a better all-round goalkeeper, he seems to have a calming effect on the defenders in front of him.
Darlow did seem nervy yesterday, and it is quite possible the defenders were feeding off them.
