Danny Mills misread the Newcastle United situation, yet again, during a talkSPORT segment today, with him dragging out the usual misconception that Toon fans expect the club to be in the top six.
During his speech he claimed that Steve Bruce is a “safe appointment” as manager, claims the “fanatical fans” think they have a “divine right to be in the top six”, and patronisingly states their “expectations are a bit too high” because of their history.
How sadly ill-informed Mills is.
If he took the time to speak to supporters – whether it be via Twitter or in person – he would never assume such a ridiculous set of claims as these.
I do not know a single fan that thinks we have a right to be in the top six – we don’t even ask to be. And none of the fans would have too high expectations for expecting a better calibre of manager than Steve Bruce.
Danny Mills’ comments are insulting to Newcastle fans
As ever – and we all get sick of correcting the pundits who are completely ignorant of the facts – we must remind Mills that what we do expect, is a club that attracts over 50,000 fans each week, to avoid being in a relegation battle every week.
We expect better than having to rebuild in the Championship due to lack of ambition and investment from our Scrooge of an owner.
We would dearly love a few seasons of mid-table mediocrity and a good go at both domestic cup competitions.
If Mills thinks that these are expectations that are “too high”, then he is obviously not qualified to give his ludicrous opinions to a national audience.
Comments like these are not helpful. They add to the false view from other pundits and fans alike, that Newcastle fans are deluded and greedy.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
