Newcastle go to Stamford Bridge on Saturday for a difficult fixture following the international break, but from Chelsea fans’ reactions, it seems they are not too confident of a win.

Frank Lampard’s side have an array of injury worries, something his Newcastle counterpart can sympathise with, and it got worse during the international break.

N’Golo Kante is only rated as 50-50 due to a thigh muscle problem, and Mateo Kovacic picked up a knock while playing for Croatia.

Those two issues add to six others who are either ruled out already, or rated as having no more than a 50 per cent chance of recovering.

It will be music to Steve Bruce’s ears, as he looks to pull off another unexpected win in the Capital.

Some Chelsea fans are calling for untested Billy Gilmour to start – he has only been an unused substitute twice for the senior side this season – ahead of Ross Barkley.

From the social media comments, Barkley is not a popular figure with supporters, many of which fear for their side on Saturday.

It is bizarre, once again, to hear fans lamenting their team and fortunes, while sitting fifth in the Premier League table and having won their last four games in all competitions.

It is mind-boggling to think how they would react if they had real worries, and found themselves teetering on the relegation zone, like Newcastle are right now.

But Bruce, the team and the Toon fans must capitalise on the home fans’ concerns, and put them under pressure from the first whistle this weekend.

If we can keep them at bay for the first 25-30 minutes, the home fans are likely to turn on their team as frustration grows.

That will be Newcastle’s best chance to get a result.
