Aston Villa fans’ comments suggest Newcastle may have dodged a bullet with Wesley Soares

Newcastle were heavily linked with a summer move for Wesley Soares before he signed for Aston Villa, with Joelinton arriving on Tyneside for a club record fee instead.

Neither striker has been prolific in front of goal, with Joelinton scoring just once and Wesley netting four times, as both players try to adapt to the English top flight.

However, Joelinton has been putting in monumental shifts up front for Newcastle, while he has been used largely as a lone striker, in a role he has not been familiar with until this season.

He has been holding the ball up, and playing with his back to goal for much of the time during games, and has started to grow into the role since Allan Saint-Maximin’s emergence in the first-team.

So it may be unfair to judge the Brazilian merely on how many goals he has next to his name, despite that being the predominant reason for signing him.

Some Villa fans do not rate Wesley from his opening games

It appears that some Villa fans are split over their new number nine, with some fans looking for positives while others are not enamoured with him.

Certainly when asked about how they would rate his first 12 games in a Villa shirt on Twitter, their replies, although mixed, were largely negative.
