Newcastle were given another tough start to the season, when the new Premier League fixtures were announced this morning.

Like last year, there is a number of games against the top sides inside the first 10 matches, and next season sees a much trickier finish too.

Fans always want to have home games to start and end the season, and in Newcastle’s case they got their wish.

But it is a double-edged sword, with those games being Arsenal to open, and Liverpool to close.

Of much more importance to fans, however, is ensuring that Rafa Benitez is in charge for both of those games.

With season ticket prices rising for the new season, no manager agreement forthcoming, and a potential takeover saga to continue, fans are already worried about the future of their club.

As exciting as fixture release day can be, it is merely a sideshow to the issues that really matter to fans this summer.

Other issues are more important than tough opening fixtures for fans

Fans are right to be worried, and unless real progress is made immediately on any of those concerns, it promises to be a long season on Tyneside yet again.
