Nice winger Allan Saint-Maximin, who was previously claimed to be close to signing for Newcastle, is being linked with Watford, according to Sky Sports.
The 22-year-old prospect was said to be close to agreeing personal terms with the Magpies, according to French sources, but they added that no fee negotiations had begun.

It is hard to believe that a deal could be close, and terms offered before any talks between the clubs had been underway, which may pour cold water on those rumours.
But Watford are said to be interested in a deal for a fee of around £25 million, with Sky Sports claiming the player appears to have “fallen out” with Nice manager, and Newcastle shortlist candidate, Patrick Vieira.

Regardless of how concrete Newcastle’s interest is, it is another player that is likely to be going somewhere other than St James’ Park, and another team strengthening, while the Toon stand still.
It is shameful that we have not signed anyone this summer, and it is impossible to think of a more inept approach to an off-season by any club in the history of the Premier League.
With no sign of a manager being appointed, the future is bleak for Newcastle fans, with many already preparing for a long season, and another Ashley-led relegation at the end of it.
