Allan Saint-Maximin returned to the starting XI on Saturday – and what a return it was.
The Frenchman helped himself to two assists, and was a constant threat down the left.
After starting the previous four games on the bench, Saint-Maximin proved he can be much more effective from the start.

He took Ryan Fraser’s place in the team, and the summer signing might struggle to get back into the starting XI.
Where does Fraser fit in?
Newcastle have had a lot of joy since their latest change in formation.
Steve Bruce has shuffled his pack all season, but the arrival of Graeme Jones has coincided with the Magpies reverting to a diamond.
The system has worked wonders, allowing Miguel Almiron to play centrally.
While the formation change has seen an upturn in fortunes, Saint-Maximin’s performance against Southampton could be bad news for Fraser.
Newcastle’s front two has seen Callum Wilson operating up top alongside a winger. The forwards have been pulling wide, creating space in the middle for Almiron.
Fraser did well at Goodison Park, but Saint-Maximin’s performance on Saturday was outstanding.
Bruce will hopefully continue with this system next Monday against Chelsea, but possibly without Wilson.
The forward limped off with a hamstring injury before half time, and it’s unknown how long he’ll be out for.
This could hand an opportunity to Fraser, but it seems more likely that Bruce will go with a more recognised striker – or Joelinton.

Newcastle’s new formation has brought good performances and impressive results – but makes it more difficult for Bruce to accommodate Saint-Maximin AND Fraser.
Saint-Maximin cannot be dropped, meaning Fraser will likely be stuck on the bench for the forseeable.
Just as he was getting a run in the team, Fraser will now be wondering how on earth he’s going to get back in it.
